The Association of Virginia Ruritans is saddened
by the sudden passing of current National Director, BETTY MOORE, on Monday, June 12, 2017.  Betty had attended the AVR meeting and the Appomattox District Picnic on Sunday afternoon.
 
Please keep Betty's family in your thoughts and prayers as they say goodbye to Betty at her
Celebration of Life this weekend.

 The 2017 AVR Rally was held on April 7-9 in
Williamsburg,VA. with 39 attendees from
VA, NC, WV, OH. - including National President Danny and First Lady Linda and 5 former National Presidents.
Friday Night started with dinner, a speaker, Randy Flood, from the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown, fellowship, and an ice cream social.
 
Saturday's business session was led by President Cleve.  There was the election of officers (see our "2017-2018 AVR Officers" page for complete list of officers), introductions of guests, remarks
from National President Danny, 2-minute remarks from 4 candidates for National office, reports and discussions of old and new business. We were very pleased to have the President of the
William and Mary Ruriteen Club, Jasmine Adams,
with us for the Business Session.
 
After the Business Session groups left to enjoy
the area sights, shopping and restaurants, or a very
informative tour of the American Revolution Museum by
our Friday night speaker, Randy Flood.
 
 
 
Saturday Evening Installation Banquet:  The evening was opened with the National Sojourners (a local group of Colonial Rein-actors) presentation of the Flag and a "Toast to the Flag".

 
 
The program continued with dinner and the installation of the 2017-2018 AVR officers by National President Danny.   Remarks were made by National President Danny, outgoing AVR President
Cleve, and incoming AVR President Robin.
 
 
         
                  The Gavel is passed ....
 
 
The evening ended with a Live Auction and Ice Cream Social.  
 
It was a great weekend in Williamsburg with - as National President Danny says "our Ruritan Family".
If you missed the Rally, you missed a great time
with good friends.

 AVR SPRING RALLY was held in Staunton, VA.
in April, 2016.  Officers were elected, good business
meeting, lots of good food from the good cooks at the
Mint Spring Ruritan Club, lunch at the Middlebrook
County Store, silent and live auctions to benefit the National Foundation, and lots of Ruritan fellowship.

   AVR Director, Robin Davenport, retired at the end
of the school year after 40 years in Virginia Beach city schools - the last 17 years as principal of Creeds Elementary - the very school he attended as a child.

Jack and Elizabeth Keller
Jack passed away on January 16, 2015 and
Elizabeth passed away on June 6, 2015.
 
They were both hard workers for AVR over the years.
They both loved Ruritan and all their
Ruritan friends.
 
They are both together again - but much
sooner they anyone ever imagined.

 AVR held their quarterly meeting on
Sunday, June 7,
at the Hooper Pavilion, Crewe, VA.
There were approximately 20 members present and
8 visitors from North Carolina. 
The meeting was held outside in a picnic shelter 
and it was a beautiful afternoon.
President George had a full agenda and several
interesting topics were discussed.  Plans and
suggestions for upcoming projects and events were
discussed and some real excitement was shown during
the meeting.
 "One of the best AVR meetings in some time"
 
President George conducted a very
productive meeting.
 
 
 
Following the meeting, everyone enjoyed the
Appomattox District BBQ Chicken Dinner,
music, corn hole games,
and lots of Ruritan Fellowship!!!!
